Police Arrest Two Kidnappers, Rescue Macheted Victim In Jigawa

Two suspected kidnappers have been arrested in the Ringim Local Government Area of the state. Their victims was also recovered unconscious.

Lawan Shiisu, the police spokesman in Jigawa, said the suspects were arrested on Thursday by a crack team that was assisted by local vigilantes.

The police had received a credible intelligence report before raiding the criminals’ hideout at Nisan Marke village, he said.

The victim, Muhammad Sama’ila, aged 45, from Madari village of Warawa Local Government Area of Kano state, had “machete cuts all over his body” at the time of his rescue on August 24.

The spokesperson added that after regaining consciousness at the hospital, the victim revealed that he was kidnapped on August 22, at about 1:30, from Madari village.

Mr Shiisu the suspect alleged that when he attempted to escape, one of the suspects attacked and inflicted injuries on his body.

The victim’s cellphone, which was used for ransom negotiation, was recovered from one of the suspect, an indigene of Gurgunna village, Babura LGA, Jigawa,

“Furthermore, a 30-year-old man of Nisan Marke village was also arrested at about 12:30 a.m.,” he said.

Mr Shiisu stated that during interrogation, both suspects confessed to having abducted the victim in collaboration with eight other gang members, now at large.

He said the police were intensifying efforts to trace the other eight suspects.

Mr Shiisu said the suspects had been handed over to the team of the anti-Kidnapping section, Kano State Police Command, for discreet investigation.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aliyu Tafida, who appreciated the officers’ efforts, urged the public to always avail the police with credible and reliable information about suspicious persons in their localities for prompt action.
