El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Other Opposition Leaders Adopt ADC To Unseat Tinubu In 2027

…David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola Named Protem Leaders

In a significant political realignment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, prominent opposition figures including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their coalition platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

The coalition has appointed former Senate President David Mark as the protem national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as protem national secretary of the party.

This coalition, which also includes other key leaders such as former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, aims to unify opposition forces across party lines to present a formidable challenge to the ruling APC.

The coalition accuses the Tinubu administration of failing to deliver on its promises, citing economic hardship and insecurity as major concerns.

The decision to adopt ADC follows earlier attempts to unite under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and efforts to register a new party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which faced regulatory hurdles.

The coalition is now focused on restructuring and strengthening ADC to serve as the main opposition platform in 2027.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting attended by influential political stakeholders, signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape as opposition leaders consolidate to unseat President Tinubu and dislodge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
