Kidnap Gang Busted: Oyo CP Reveals Arrests, Weapons Recovered In Adelabu Abduction Case

The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday paraded four suspects arrested in connection with the abduction of Mrs. Adelabu-John Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any fleeing members of the kidnapping ring.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga led officers and journalists to the kidnappers’ hideout at Araromi Quarters, Ayegun North in Oluyole Local Government Area, following an intelligence-led operation that secured the release of Mrs. Adelabu-John Paul and her twins.

The victims were abducted in the early hours of June 3, 2026, in Ibadan.

At an inspection of the hideout and a subsequent press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Olugbenga said investigations and security operations remain ongoing.

He assured residents that every member of the criminal syndicate would be traced and prosecuted.

Items recovered from the suspects included three pump-action rifles, 14 live cartridges, an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly used in the abduction, criminal charms, a battle axe, a hammer, suspected hard drugs, and two face masks.

The hideout was also found to have been used to support the gang’s activities.

Olugbenga said some gang members escaped during the operation and may have sustained gunshot wounds while fleeing.

He appealed to residents, healthcare workers, private hospitals, traditional bone setters, and other medical practitioners to report anyone presenting suspicious gunshot wounds or unusual injuries to the nearest police station or security agency.

“We urge members of the public to be vigilant and security conscious.

Residents should report suspicious persons, strange movements, and unusual activities within their communities. Information from the public remains critical to crime prevention and successful law enforcement operations,” he said.

The commissioner commended the Inspector-General of Police for his support and leadership and thanked the Oyo State Government for its continued collaboration with security agencies.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to removing criminal elements from the state and ensuring that all those involved in the kidnapping are apprehended and prosecuted.
