Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said that the 2027 general election will be his last attempt at the presidency.
Abubakar spoke on Wednesday in an interview on Arise TV.
It will be recalled that he has contested for the presidency of Nigeria six times between 1993 and 2023.
He has appeared on the final general election ballot three times (2007, 2019, and 2023) and lost in the party primaries during his other three attempts (1993, 2011, and 2015).
1993: Social Democratic Party (SDP)
Contested the primaries of the SDP during the Third Republic.
Finished third behind M.K.O. Abiola and Babagana Kingibe.
Stepped down for Abiola during the run-off.
2007: Action Congress (AC)
Left the PDP after a fallout with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Was the flagbearer for the Action Congress in the general election.
Finished third behind Umaru Yar’Adua (PDP) and Muhammadu Buhari (ANPP).
2011: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Returned to the PDP and contested the party’s presidential primary.
Lost the ticket to the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan.
2015: All Progressives Congress (APC)
Joined the newly formed APC coalition in 2014.
Contested the APC presidential primary in Lagos.
Finished third behind Muhammadu Buhari and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
2019: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Returned to the PDP in 2017.
Won the PDP primary in Port Harcourt.
Lost the general election to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
2023: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Secured the PDP ticket again after defeating Nyesom Wike in the primaries.
Finished second in the general election behind Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC).
