The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC New Era has condemned the recent killing of Shiites members by the Nigerian army, warning President Buhari against creating another Boko Haram in the country.
The Yoruba group in a press release signed and made available to journalists by its President, Comrade Razak Arogundade, said the recent killing of Shiites members who embarked on a peaceful protest in Abuja was uncalled for and a great injustice that must be condemned by any right thinking person.
“The senseless killing of Shiites members by security operatives in Abuja is uncalled for and a great injustice that must be condemned by any right thinking person. These people have a right to freedom of religion as clearly stated in the constitution of Nigeria. They even got permission from the police before embarking on the protest; so why the Nigerian army would open fire on these people? This is nothing but an exercise of pogrom against the Shiites members.”
Arogundade added that the ‘mighty Nigeria army’ which ought to have used its might against Boko Haram terrorists who are killing it officersalmost on a daily basis only uses its strength against defenseless members of the public like the Shiites.
“It’s very unfortunate to see Nigerian army using full force against defenseless members of the public. If truly they are as powerful as they want us to believe; they ought to have exterminated Boko Haram terrorists completely.”
Speaking further, Arogundade warned President Buhari against creating another terrorist group out of Shiites who according to him are currently being persecuted.
“We are very disappointed in the government of Buhari for its refusal to follow court order. Despite the fact that a Federal High Court ordered the government to release the leader of the Shiites, Sheikh El-Zakzaky; the federal government refused. We are calling on the international community to intervene before Shiites members are completely wiped out by Buhari’s government. OPC had once being a victim of such oppressive regime and many of our members were killed. Buhari must not create another monster out of Shiites. We can’t afford to have another Boko Haram because an injustice to one; is an injustice to all.”
