Exclusive: How Police Informant Tipped Igboho Off About DSS Plot To Arrest Him, Told Him How To Evade Arrest

Following the failed attempt by Men of the Department Of State Security Service, DSS to arrest Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, TheDispatch has exclusively gathered that a Police informant who was part of the team tipped him off about the plan arrest.

A source who spoke to TheDispatch under condition of anonymity said that the DSS involved some officers of the Nigerian Army and some officers of the Nigeria Police in the operation.

The source added that Igboho would have been easily arrested if not for one of the police officers who tipped him off about the plan and also told him what to do to evade arrest.

“It is true there was attempt to arrest Sunday Igboho. The Nigerian secret police involved the Nigerian Army and also the Nigeria Police. It was one of the police officers involved in the operation that tipped Igboho off. He would have been easily arrested if not for the fact that he has been told few minutes before operation could be carried out”.

The source added that team mandated to arrest him at the front of Guru Maharaji were surprised when Igboho appeared half-naked and had many of his boys shouting and who also provided cover for him to enter another vehicle and escaped.

“The DSS team that went for the operation decided not to go ahead with the planned arrest of Igboho to avoid bloodshed and also because they believed the operation has been compromised.”

On how it was discovered that a police informant tipped Igboho off, the source added that the phone records of all those involved in the operation were obtained and it was there that it was discovered that a police officer among the team had called Igboho to inform him about the plan arrest and also told him what to do to avoid being arrested.

“The police officer among team that went for the operation not only tipped Igboho off but also told him to go half-naked, go public and also ensure that the whole drama was recorded and posted on social media. And that is exactly what Igboho did.”

It would be recalled that DSS had after news of the botched operation went viral released a statement that it was not aware of any plan to arrest Igboho.

“The Department of State Services, DSS, has denied attempting to arrest Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Some security personnel allegedly attempted to arrest Igboho on Friday.

However, in a statement, DSS denied that they made a grab for Igboho.

In the statement by Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer, DSS described the reports as “misinforming” and “fake”.

The statement read: “The Department of State Services wishes to refute the news that it attempted to arrest one Sunday Igboho, today (Friday), at Ibadan, Oyo State.

“The said news is misinforming and should be taken as fake and, therefore, be disregarded.”
