A Kwara State High Court has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello, a self-proclaimed cleric who confessed to the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, to death by hanging
The judgment was delivered Thursday in Ilorin, the state capital, following months of trial.
Bello was found guilty after admitting to the crime in court.
The presiding judge described the act as “heinous” and said the sentence reflected the severity of the offence.
Authorities said the case drew widespread attention across Kwara State, with many calling for justice after the revelation of Lawal’s killing.
Family and supporters gathered outside the courthouse after the verdict.
The defence has not indicated whether it will appeal the decision.
