Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed the new Leader of Iran.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the Assembly of Experts selected Ayatollah Haj Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei by an overwhelming majority as the third Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, following the martyrdom of Grand Ayatollah Imam Khamenei.
In its statement, the Assembly of Experts expressed condolences for the death of the former Leader and other martyrs, including military commanders and students killed during what it described as aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime.
The Assembly said that despite severe wartime conditions, direct threats, and the bombing of its offices, it immediately began the constitutional process of selecting a new leader to prevent any leadership vacuum.
An extraordinary session was organised, and representatives from across the country convened to carry out their constitutional duties.
After extensive deliberations and in accordance with the constitution, the Assembly announced the appointment of Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the third Leader of the Islamic Republic.
It called on the Iranian people, scholars, and intellectuals to pledge allegiance to the new leadership and maintain unity around the system of Wilayat al-Faqih.
The statement concluded with prayers for God’s continued protection and blessing upon Iran and its people.
