A prominent civil society group, the Oyo Rising Citizens Forum (ORCF), has launched a blistering counterattack against the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, describing his recent media commentary as a tissue of lies laced with fundamental ignorance.
In a press statement issued and signed by Alaba Adebisi and Owolabi Salam, the forum reacted to a live radio interview where Adekanmbi made a mockery of himself by challeging the performance record of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
The forum stated that Adekanmbi’s utterances not only distorted verifiable legislative history but also exposed an embarrassing lack of understanding regarding constitutional law and modern local government administration.
The ORCF first took aim at Adekanmbi’s lies that Senator Alli had spent over three years in the National Assembly without sponsoring a single piece of legislation.
Dismissing the APM candidate’s claim that Alli has no bills to his credit, the group highlighted Alli’s active legislative portfolio, which includes the successfully passed Federal Medical Centre Igbo-Ora (Establishment) Bill, the Federal Universities of Agriculture Act (Amendment) Bill, and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act (Amendment) Bill, alongside critical floor motions on national security and infrastructure rehabilitation.
The forum also condemned Adekanmbi’s stance on local government autonomy, flatly rejecting his argument that the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) framework remains supreme.
The forum described Adekanmbi’s view as bizarre constitutional quackery, noting that the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a landmark, definitive judgment enforcing direct financial allocations to all 774 local government areas and declaring the tampering of local council funds via JAAC accounts completely unconstitutional.
ORCF further alleged that Adekanmbi’s defence of the JAAC system reveals him to be a political proxy acting on behalf of the incumbent Governor, Seyi Makinde, to sustain anti-people policies that financially starve local councils.
The Forum equally condemned the falsehood regarding Senator Alli’s past tenure as the Executive Chairman of the Ibadan North Local Government, challenging Adekanmbi to produce any official panel report or indictment to validate his looting claims.
ORCF urged the Oyo electorate to disregard the misinformation from a campaign it says lacks a viable blueprint.
