Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has criticised Gulf Arab countries for allowing American military bases on their territory, saying the United States uses them for its own strategic interests rather than providing real protection.
In a post on X on Thursday, Medvedev said Gulf states had “naively expected protection” from Washington after hosting US bases. He argued that the US primarily protects only one country in the region while using Gulf territory for its broader military agenda.
“Think long and hard about whether you really need US bases – they’re not protection, they’re a threat,” Medvedev wrote.
His remarks come amid rising tensions in West Asia and growing debate over the role of US military presence across Gulf countries.
